Abuse… Stop it now! (easy read leaflet)

Abuse… Stop it now!

In July 2019, the Royal Greenwich Safeguarding Adults Board has undertaken work in collaboration with local services and community representatives to co-produce the first version of the Safeguarding Adults easy read leaflet: Abuse… Stop it now!.

The work is  in line with the Safeguarding Adults Board strategy: to Improve Communication and Engagement with the wider community, and to ensure some of the most vulnerable people have access to essential information.

The Board has worked intensively with Research Net, Safe Places (Advocacy in Greenwich), and the Carer’s Centre to make sure the information contained in the leaflet is accessible and meets clients’ needs. The results were presented to various consultation groups, and changes were made in accordance with their comments.

The leaflet was completed and launched on the 5th of November at Charlton House. The event was very well attended by people with learning disabilities living in the borough.  In the first part of the event, the Mayor and Mayoress emphasised on the importance of equal opportunities and supporting people with learning disabilities to lead a good life.

In the second part of the event, a session of bite-size workshops was organised, and attendees had the opportunity to talk about how to stay safe at home, in the community or on social media with professionals from London Fire Brigade, Transport for London and Transport Police, Trading Standards and Community Learning Disabilities. Also, each attendee received a copy of the easy-read leaflet and plenty informational sheets from the partner agencies, to share with their family and friends.

The Safeguarding Adults Board would like to thank everyone who attended and made this event such a success, and would like to encourage members of the public to share the leaflet.
